Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Under the ambitious Maritime Connectivity Model, the rejuvenation of docks across Jalisco is swiftly progressing, fueled by a substantial budget allocation of 34 million pesos for the year 2024. The Government of Jalisco has affirmed that the overhaul of the Boca de Tomatlán and Yelapa Lagunitas docks is presently underway, with completion slated before the conclusion of the current administration.
Vanessa Pérez Lamas, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, emphasized, “The renovation of our docks within the Maritime Connectivity Model seeks to promote sustainable tourism development. With these works, which will have an investment of more than 180 million pesos, the competitiveness of these small destinations on the Jalisco Coast is increased, improving their connectivity and quality of life for their population, thus consolidating our objective: livable and visitable destinations.”
A pivotal aspect of this initiative includes beach promotion actions, incorporating the implementation of the Tourist and Visual Hospitality Agent framework. This endeavor aims to standardize the appearance of restaurants and palapas on the docks, with a dedicated budget of 6.5 million pesos.
The recently refurbished Playa de los Muertos dock, completed in November 2023 under the supervision of the Infrastructure and Planning Secretariat (SIOP) and with an investment of 10 million pesos from Secturjal, serves as a beacon of the project’s progress.
Furthermore, the Boca de Tomatlán dock, allocated a total investment of 31 million pesos by Secturjal, stands at 85 percent completion, with the access road nearing 80 percent fulfillment. Anticipations are high for the forthcoming delivery of a pristine dock capable of facilitating the seamless movement of goods and people across the vast expanse between Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrientes.
The comprehensive project encompasses enhancements to the urban landscape of Las Garzas Street, encompassing cobblestone-laden roads, sidewalks, lighting fixtures, signage, plumbing networks, accessibility measures, planters, and residential entryways.
Meanwhile, at the Playa Las Ánimas pier, Secturjal has earmarked 44 million pesos for upgrades. To facilitate ongoing interventions, a temporary support dock has been erected at Las Ánimas.
In tandem with the Maritime Connectivity Model, the Government of Jalisco, through SIOP, has embarked on the rehabilitation of the Melaque and Punta Pérula jetties. Notably, the Malecón de Melaque has witnessed extensive refurbishment, including the construction of an extension and a quaint square, with a financial injection of 23 million pesos. Similarly, a substantial investment of 107 million pesos has been directed towards the Malecón Punta Pérula, encompassing the construction of a pier spanning 12,395 square meters and a 3.4-kilometer access route, underscoring the holistic approach towards enhancing maritime infrastructure and tourism prospects across Jalisco.
