Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – The Secretary of Transportation Jalisco, Diego Monraz Villaseñor, has announced a significant boost to the city’s public transportation system with the arrival of 101 new buses. Of these, 25 buses are set to enter circulation in the coming week, signaling the beginning of a long-awaited transformation in the region’s public transit.
In response to concerns about the inadequate quality of public transportation services in Puerto Vallarta, Secretary Diego Monraz Villaseñor pointed out several factors that have contributed to the current state of affairs. He attributed the issues to decisions made during the previous state administration under Aristóteles Sandoval. According to Monraz Villaseñor, the previous administration compelled concessionaires to procure vehicles ill-suited for Puerto Vallarta’s unique needs. Additionally, he acknowledged the challenges posed by the city’s road conditions and rapid population growth.
The first batch of 25 buses that have already arrived boasts modern amenities, including air conditioning and an advanced payment system. These buses have a remarkable capacity of accommodating up to 91 passengers and will primarily serve the Ecoterra and Ixtapa B routes. In April, an additional 76 buses are scheduled to arrive, bringing the total to 101 new vehicles.
To address the existing demand, the older buses that are being replaced will be redeployed to other routes, particularly in the upper areas of the El Pitillal district. Currently, the public transportation fleet stands at 280 buses, falling short of the 315 buses recommended by the Ministry of Transportation. With the influx of these new buses, the concession requirements will be met, promising improved transportation services for the residents and visitors of Puerto Vallarta.
This significant investment in the public transportation system represents a crucial step towards enhancing the overall quality of life for Puerto Vallarta’s residents and fostering a more efficient and sustainable urban environment. The addition of these modern buses is expected to address long-standing issues and bring about positive changes in the city’s transportation network.
