The Museo del Cuale is located in the craft market of Puerto Vallarta, on the so-called Isla de Cuale. It was opened in December 1978. In 2004 the property and the museography were maintained, and the following year it reopened its doors with a Western Mexican collection, loaned by the regional muses of Guadalajara, Colima and Michoacán. In 2015, hurricane ‘”Patricia”, which hit western Mexico, flooded the small island of the same name within the la the museum is located, although the architectural structure of the Cuale was not damaged, as a preventive measure the archaeological collection was packed and taken to the Regional Museum of Guadalajara (MRG). On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, the museum of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) reopened its doors in order to make it available again to the local public and national and foreign tourism visiting Puerto Vallarta.
