It is important to note that the application process citizenship is through a different government agency than the process of obtaining a Visa. When you apply for a Visa you can have people act on your behalf and do almost the entire process for you in your place all you do is show up and sign and do finger prints and a photo. The process of naturalizing as a Mexican citizen is managed by the\u00a0Secretar\u00eda de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE)<\/em>. There are various ways you might be able to become a Mexican citizen, including by birth or adoption, by marriage, or as the descendent of Mexican citizens. The exact process you follow will vary based on the route you take, with different paperwork needed, and varying residence requirements to consider.<\/p>

If you\u2019re wondering how to apply for Mexican citizenship, one common route for US citizens is to apply based on residency. In this case you\u2019ll have to live in Mexico for 5 years or more, and prove you have a good understanding of the language and culture.<\/p>
